OUR HISTORY

We are a restaurant whose story began at Johnson’s Grocery in Eunice.   Johnson’s Grocery was a dry goods store and specialty meat market.   The store was opened by Arneastor Johnson and his daughter, Marie Johnson Fruge, in 1937.   They delivered groceries, had charge accounts, and provided unmatched customer service.   They were known for their world famous Boudin as well as their Smoked Sausage, Tasso, and Cajun Specialty Meats.   They became the first dry goods store to commercially sell boudin, a south Louisiana delicacy, in the 1940s.   Five generations of the Johnson family worked there and they served their community until 2005.

Lori Johnson Walls, Arneastor’s granddaughter, opened Johnson’s Boucaniére in Lafayette, LA, in 2008.   She has been continuing their tradition and honoring her family’s legacy by using the same recipes in the making of our Boudin, Smoked (and unsmoked) Sausages, and Tasso.

While we stay true to our roots, we also serve BBQ and Smoked Meats using Rubs and Sauces developed by Lori's husband and pit master Greg Walls over 15 years ago.  Sit down on our huge covered wrap around porch (heated and cooled) and enjoy a meal while you listen to some Big Band music or Local Tunes pumped out by KRVS.  Come experience the past and present, the old and the new, at Johnson's Boucanière in the heart of Downtown Lafayette To-Day.
